As you know by now, “recovery”, seems to be my middle name these days. Initially they have said no more than 10 lbs above my shoulders or swimming for 30 days. They said I could run and bike indoors…..but we will see if that changes when I meet with the cardiologist prior to surgery. Whenever they say return to normal activities….my wife is there to tell them to explain “normal” to me:-)

I got through another hard day yesterday.
I made a smart choice this morning instead of surrendering to my ocd and I am proud of myself bc it wasn’t easy.

Thanks for bringing this to the main forum.

Week is going great.

I am mostly a pure runner now with the occasional recreational triathlon.

Running is funny because you can run for months and not make any gains at all and then all of a sudden you make progress for no apparent reason. With running, you just have to trust the process and keep doing it day after day. Sometimes you even get slower for awhile. But I guarantee that if you run 4-6 days per week, two years from now you will be faster.

This week, I made the first real progress that I have made in awhile. While doing intervals, I noticed that I was holding a pace that previously would have been a struggle and all of a sudden it felt, not easy..... but sustainable. Like I could keep it up for awhile.

Anyways. It was nice and I feel good about the slow progress.

Otherwise, life is good. I continue to be unbelievably fortunate.

Goals for only for the last couple of days of the week:

Being ready for playing cello with my kids' youth orchestra tomorrow. (I've only played about 20 times, so it's a bit scary, but I'm a violinist, so that helps.) (I'm the only cellist.)
Making sure that the 4 kids I've got playing are ready.
Being more effective with my time.
Small amounts of (1) cleaning my office (2) studying for my math and physics classes (3) treadmill (whatever my injured left foot will allow).
Control in relation to eating the beautiful chocolate cake that will be offered tonight for one of my kid's birthdays.

Thanks for putting this up! (I certainly need the help.)

Tri or tri not; this is no du. (--- with apologies to Yoda.) Slow triathlete who survived Huntsville, Lelystadt, Colmar, Fontanil, and
Szekesfehervar/Lake Velence. Arbor hydration specialist in a kid's park in Monterrey 4 times in the 1990s (and in the pits in 1994).

cello is beautiful!

re: cake - eat mindfully. The feeling of having had "enough" is partially psychological and in relation to what is available. I've found if I have two really good fancy caramels, I tend to eat both before I think I've had enough. And if I have one, savoring one feels like enough. Food's kinda interesting that way.

Enjoy what the cake looks like with and without candles, what the frosting tastes like, what the cake part tastes like, how they taste together. What it smells like. Using all our senses helps us eat less. Put your fork down between bites. Enjoy the look on your kid's face.
