I’m hoping to have production samples for internal testing of the new hydration in about two weeks.

Many have noticed that I have removed the rear ceramic pulley system from the website.

They are being replaced with large "ceramic pulley wheels" that can be swapped with your current Shimano system.

This will make the switch less expensive to each athlete and will make installation easier while keeping the shifting crisper over time by eliminating the flex in longer cage after market systems.

They will be in stock in about 3 weeks.

Dan

I’m rocking the oversized pulley and the chain has jumped off the top pulley wheel a few times. I cannot seem to make it happen - so, not exactly sure what the mechanism / cause is.

I’m starting to wonder if I need to pull a link or two out of the chain. Or it could just be the flex in the cage.

Do you have a picture you could post or send me with the system installed correctly?

I don't have an image to send. If you have not trimmed any of the 118 links - that may be the issue.

For the standard install without the oversized pulley, do you recommend trimming a few links? The chain seems to be perfect in the big gear up front, but when I shift to the smaller gear up front there is a ton of slack.

Yes - most chains are 115 links and need to be trimmed based on Crank and Cassette,

Ours is 118 links - so with the normal Shimano system 52/36 and 11/23 cassette - I usually trim 5 or 6 links. In sync mode you will never get into the big front ring and largest rear cassette so you can trim the extra link if you like.

When in the big front and large gear - the pulley can be almost at its full forward position. Not taught but almost to the end of its forward travel. More to your concern - There are three holes where the Shimano tension spring could be inserted. Low, medium and high tension. If you bounce the bike on the two wheels and the chain is so loose it can come off - you can change which hole the tension spring inserts into and it will fix that issue.

With the over size pulley system you need to measure.

Here is a pic of my os pulley system installed on my tactical. The b adjustment must be lengthened or the cage will hit the chain stay and won't go into the top few gears. Maybe that's what's knocking your chain off?

Dan - any updates on the hydration system? I'm waiting, credit card in hand!

Had the same problem with the chainstay and chain rubbing and preventing the chain to fall on the 11 cog.

Ended up going back to the Shimano OEM pulleys.

The first production sample looks good. The main section walls needed to be a little thicker so I had the mold slightly modified. Waiting on the updated version now.

Ditched my over sized pulley kit last night and put OEM back on. It been annoying the crap out of me with the slow shifting. I guess that ends my affair with the sexy pulleys

Yep - I have been using the ceramic wheels with the original cases from Shimano. Moving forward we will offer the wheels to swap.

Wondering if anyone has any long term feedback on use of the Premier lube. Been using it for about 6 months but looking to switch back to Squirt. It seems I need to reapply fresh lube after almost every ride or otherwise my chain starts to sound noisy. I like that the Premier lube makes the chain easy to clean, and when freshly lubed the drivetrain runs very smooth (my drivetrain uses a Kogel ceramic BB and BBInfinite ceramic oversized pulleys with the Premier optimized chain). I just don't like the extra work on the chain or it starting to sound a bit louder in the middle of a ride.

x2. This was the missing link to getting comfortable for me. Just waiting for the front hydration and it will be perfect.

by no means discounting the people that have had issues with the oversized pulley setup, but i had the oversized pulleys installed since day one and havnt had the first issue with slow shifting or any other related problems. the setup has worked well for me.

I wish I could have gotten it going. I adjusted and re adjusted over and over. I would get in the middle of a ride and get hung in a gear with noise like the chain was about to catch the next cog but never would. Adjust mech the other way, and the problem would reverse. Always showed up somewhere. I would get on one of my road bikes with normal da or ultegra di2 cages and they would shift like butter. Taking the tactical out tomorrow and looking forward to that shifting again with the normal cage back on.

If I were you, I wouldn't adjust it... or write down where the adjustment is (ie - clicks in or out), if you have it linked to your head unit .

I think the long cages are a bit difficult to get just right.

One of the three tension holes must be used to get the setting right and that has a lot to do with just how many links you trim from the chain.

I also found that using e-tube project software and making sure the system knows which components (rear cassette and chain ring) you are using really effects the shifting.

Once its right - its good - but takes some work.

Not my area of expertise :-)

I will re-install after 70.3 Gulf Coast next weekend and see if I can get it cleaned up with Etube. I have not hooked up to it with the software yet, only made index adjustments to the rd. Maybe I can find a setting combo that works best that I can share.

It’s just not worth the trouble. There is zero upside other than it’s sexiness. Even when I got it right, once I changed the cassette from an 11-23 to an 11-28, it went out of whack. Then back to 11-23 and I couldn’t get it right. It’s just an unnecessary headache when the shimano one works so well.
