I was going to say mini disc players.
They had a short run. I really liked mine.

Floppy disks (the 8" ones went to market a little before I was born, but the 5.25" ones hit your criteria)

Brittany Murphy

Was going to say Garbage Pail Kids, but apparently they still make them, at least some anniversary release sets

The guy who invented the tape cassette, Lou Ottens, also helped to invent the CD

I'm taking this as fact and not gonna look it up, simply because I think it is a pretty badass fact! (And because I'd believe dang near anything you post... right or wrong...)

Why?

I manage all the emergent responses in the hospital. They page them out overhead as well as to our issued pagers. I don't know why they can't call our mobiles but that's how they do it.

computer punch cards

You must be really, really old.

At the end of the 1800s Herman Hollerith invented the recording of data on a medium that could then be read by a machine, developing punched card data processing technology for the 1890 U.S. census.

In 1928, IBM introduced a standard and widely used punched card format of 80 columns, 12 rows and rectangular holes.

I was going to put mp3 player on my list but went with the boombox. Is the whole mp3 format a thing of the past? Can't remember the last time I used one.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Beepers are also still used in labs that require a security clearance. Phones are not allowed but beepers are because they can't transmit.

Thanks! I stand corrected.

Amend to “beepers used by crack dealers” perhaps?
