You're 1 for 3 assuming you were born before 1967. We still use fax machines at work and dollar coins have been around in one form or another since the 1700s.

You must be really, really old.

At the end of the 1800s Herman Hollerith invented the recording of data on a medium that could then be read by a machine, developing punched card data processing technology for the 1890 U.S. census.

In 1928, IBM introduced a standard and widely used punched card format of 80 columns, 12 rows and rectangular holes.

Hard to believe nowadays, but there was a breakfast chain restaurant called Sambo's that I used to go to as a kid out on the West Coast. Also, remember Howard Johnson's restaurants. Not sure if there are any of those left.

I can remember several 'toys' from the 70s that i had that wouldn't cut it now due to safety concerns...there was the 'strange change machine' where you could compress plastic into a square and upon reheating it would form a dinosaur shape. Got hot as hell and could easily burn yourself. Also, those mix and bake ovens with the light bulb inside to cook the cake or whatever...another burn hazard.

Tape backup is still a thing. And it's gotten HUGE. 9th generation LTO was released in 2021, the tape's are 12.650mm tall and 1 KM long! Can hold 45TB per tape! https://buy.hpe.com/...ape-drives/p/4150338

That's a long way from the 1951 Remington Rand (Unisys) 224kb 1/2" tape.

(Remington Rand used to be the Remington Typewriter Co until 1927. Before that Remington & Sons sold their typewriter business and name to Standard Typewriter in 1886 when rifle making became too good. Remington Typewriter merged with Rand Kardex in 27 and invented the tape drive to power UNIVAC)

If you still use a fax you probably still use a slide rule.
The gold colored dollar coin was issued around 2000. Cant find them anywhere now.

0 for 3. High schools still requires handheld calculators for several tests, as do some of the AP tests.
There are lists of approved calculators (including scientific and graphing variants, e.g. TI-84) that have sufficient capabilities to support the math calculations without online connectivity of extensive programming capability.

Hospital ran a test to replace pagers with phone app and ended up staying with pagers because ER was overwhelming the specialists with unnecessary questions/photos/etc and data showed the app wasn't more efficient.

my biological lifetime and ST lifetime are the same thing ;-) jk but I did find this forum when I was a junior in high school.

My ST lifetime! clm might be able to tell us when it was created. It was removed 5-6 weeks ago (ish). I moved my weekly accountability thread over to the main forum, along with everything else I would've otherwise posted in women's. The first post in the latter category was if others' sex drive increases when they are training less.

Rollerblades are still around, maybe not as popular. When my back and foot finally gave up the ghost I toyed with the idea of getting into inline racing. Then remembered I was 50, brittle, and going 20+ mph on skates was not a good idea. Plus the angle of their backs when propelling themselves just looks painful.

They had a short run. I really liked mine.

Still have a full-sized deck and dozens of tapes, though most all of them have been converted to CD/wav.

Sure you meant Sportscenter. Which was a good one and I almost tossed out.

For all intents and purposes, it is gone. HS/College/Singledom could crash on the couch and watch it on a loop. All the games in all the markets, segments were tight with a few good flashbacks to lead up to that game, interviews, and then mostly witty banter. It was so enjoyable, I would often watch twice.

One route I run on still has "MCI" spray-painted on the road, maybe to indicate the old cables?

Along these lines and didnt see it here, what about Wide World of Sports? That was the one and only sports show for a very long time, the one that introduced Ironman to the world back in 1980..

Add Baseball Tonight. I would always stay up to watch the show at 11pm or midnight (can't remember which).

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

You're 1 for 3 assuming you were born before 1967. We still use fax machines at work and dollar coins have been around in one form or another since the 1700s.

as a highschool teacher i can assure you that calculators are very much still a thing

You may be right, but in my world (construction project management) all of our young new hires out of college never use them. I pull out my HP 11C and they look at me like I'm using an abacus. They seem to all use formulas in the excel spreadsheets, or the calculator app on their phone.

Haha
If you still use a fax you probably still use a slide rule.
The gold colored dollar coin was issued around 2000. Cant find them anywhere now.

Community hospitals aren't exactly the center of the tech universe these days. Faxes, pagers, land line phones, we keep it old school.

Yep I work in a hospital also and fax machine is in every office still being used.
