Hard to believe nowadays, but there was a breakfast chain restaurant called Sambo's that I used to go to as a kid out on the West Coast. Also, remember Howard Johnson's restaurants. Not sure if there are any of those left.

I can remember several 'toys' from the 70s that i had that wouldn't cut it now due to safety concerns...there was the 'strange change machine' where you could compress plastic into a square and upon reheating it would form a dinosaur shape. Got hot as hell and could easily burn yourself. Also, those mix and bake ovens with the light bulb inside to cook the cake or whatever...another burn hazard.

Storing data on tape. I used to have to load the big tapes onto the main frame.

Tape backup is still a thing. And it's gotten HUGE. 9th generation LTO was released in 2021, the tape's are 12.650mm tall and 1 KM long! Can hold 45TB per tape! https://buy.hpe.com/...ape-drives/p/4150338

That's a long way from the 1951 Remington Rand (Unisys) 224kb 1/2" tape.

(Remington Rand used to be the Remington Typewriter Co until 1927. Before that Remington & Sons sold their typewriter business and name to Standard Typewriter in 1886 when rifle making became too good. Remington Typewriter merged with Rand Kardex in 27 and invented the tape drive to power UNIVAC)

You're 1 for 3 assuming you were born before 1967. We still use fax machines at work and dollar coins have been around in one form or another since the 1700s.

Haha
If you still use a fax you probably still use a slide rule.
The gold colored dollar coin was issued around 2000. Cant find them anywhere now.

0 for 3. High schools still requires handheld calculators for several tests, as do some of the AP tests.
There are lists of approved calculators (including scientific and graphing variants, e.g. TI-84) that have sufficient capabilities to support the math calculations without online connectivity of extensive programming capability.

The TI-84 helped me get through Stats, you can keep a lot of information on those things.

How the heck do these things still cost over $120? You can buy a cheap phone that is 100x more powerful for that kind of money.

I just bought my kid a TI-84 that has Python built in! They could sit in class and program on their calculator. (approved for AP tests and at least the SAT)

Why?

I manage all the emergent responses in the hospital. They page them out overhead as well as to our issued pagers. I don't know why they can't call our mobiles but that's how they do it.

Hospital ran a test to replace pagers with phone app and ended up staying with pagers because ER was overwhelming the specialists with unnecessary questions/photos/etc and data showed the app wasn't more efficient.

Community hospitals aren't exactly the center of the tech universe these days. Faxes, pagers, land line phones, we keep it old school.

Faxes, still in use, in certain industries. Not exposed to Virus attacks and provides a hard copy of signature, not dead yet.

Yeah this list is a hot mess, and depends on how we are defining gone.

Fax-- definetly still around and in use by some industries.
Dollar Coin -- got 50 for my birthday last year.
Calculators -- very much still around in schools and colleges.

I sold a 30+ year old reverse polish HP 15 for $120 on ebay. It did way less than the Ti 84 but you can't beat it for tedious basic arithmetic.
